healthy makeover

No matter how much you love to hang out, at the end of the day, your home is your abode and studies say that an average person spends 80% of his time indoors. So when we spend so much time at our home, it is only fair that we want it to be as lively and healthy as it can be. If you are experiencing a low mood or anxiety, it might possibly be due to the atmosphere around you. If you want to freshen the atmosphere of your home follow these simple tips and make your home a better place to live.

Clean Home

1. Check the Temperature

Mold and dust mites are common enemies in our household. Studies show that their biological growth is affected by the temperature. If the temperature isn’t maintained at an optimum level, you might be prone to allergies and illness. An optimum temperature of 70° F, can annihilate their growth under a suitable humidity level of 30-50%.

2. De-Clutter where Possible

Many multinational organizations first train their employees to curtail their clustered desks. Clustered desk syndrome is not only a mental syndrome but also accumulates dust everywhere. Same goes with the case of your home. Try to declutter your home at least once every month. Try to organize your home as much as possible and this will automatically reduce your clutter. Dispose the stuff that you do not need. If you are confused as to which items must be disposed, at least figure out an appropriate place for them. Set up clutter bags in every room to store unnecessary stuff and you can later sort on.

3. Clean/ Replace your carpets

Cleaning your carpets from time to time is very much advised. You can also replace your carpets with hard surfaces made of materials like rosewood, tiles, laminate, linoleum or bamboo. When you have crawling babies at home or any person suffering from respiratory problems like asthma, it is always advisable to clean the carpets very often. You can use a vacuum cleaner to clean your carpets.

4.Change the Filters on a Regular Basis

The filters inside the air conditioning unit, humidifiers and air purifiers accumulate dust after a while. It is almost impossible to eliminate all the allergens, no matter how many natural products you use. So cleaning these filters might actually help persons suffering from ragweed, dust mite and mold allergies.

5. Dump the Vinyl or Plastic Shower Curtain

Vinyl and plastic shower curtains are a sanctum for mildew and mold. Having these uninvited guest during showers is not just irksome but also disgusting. Replace these vinyl curtains with glass doors. In case you cant afford glass doors, at least go for a cloth curtain shower without any plastic lining. These curtains are easy to wash and maintain, thus helps you to put mold and mildew at bay.
