5 Styles you need to throw out after High School

You are all ready to move out to college after completing high school. You have all the necessary supplies in hand, including your favorite clothes. But wait, will these same clothes that made you a star in high school get you the same attention in college? We don’t think so. For when you are making the move from high school to college, there are some clothing styles that definitely need to be shown the door. Here are a couple of those styles you are better off without in college.

  1. Body Hugging Clothes

High school was where we were free to wear all those body hugging outfits, including corset-like tops and even low rise jeans. Anything that was clingy and showed out those very few curves in our body was worth wearing as long as were able to squeeze into it.

However, this clinginess will not work out in college where everyone expects you to wear comfortable clothes rather than ones that look like they were sewn on you. So don’t get caught in unflattering clingy outfits. Rather, try to pair them with loose, more comfortable options to make them look more fashionable. For instance, you can pair cutoffs with a loose top, or choose to cover a skater dress with a flowy jacket.

  1. Branded Logo Outfits

At high school, anything that was branded raised eyebrows. Hence, we found great pleasure in wearing outfits that had the logos attached to them. While this worked pretty well in high school, it will only be a disaster in college. No one in college wants to know where you got that expensive jacket, or that you wear only branded clothes. Subtler reflects to classier in college, meaning you need to opt for clothes that are stylish without necessarily displaying their brand name. Going to college means you need to draw the line between being called stylish and label obsessed.

  1. Other College Apparel

Believe it when we tell you that every college out there takes its identity very seriously. So it will be a major fashion faux pas if you end up wearing the clothes of another college to your college. It’s worse if the clothes happen to reflect a rival college! In college, you need to show the pride for your team and not another. So reserve these other college outfits for holidays at home. Stick to your college gear in college lest you want to get into somebody’s bad books.

  1. Sweat-stained or Torn Clothes

Sure, we all have our share of favorite clothes we don’t have the heart to throw away. If you have a few clothes that have developed numerous stains and tears over the years, keep them stocked in the cupboard. Do not wear them to college. Believe us, you may find it pretty stylish to flaunt your favorite sweatshirt filled with the signatures of all your high school friends. However, it will only make your attire tacky and label you as a person with a terrible taste of fashion.

    5. Prom Dresses

If there is one item of clothing that definitely needs to head to the back of your closet in college, it is your prom dress. Sure, you wore it only once. Sure, you think you look adorable in it. And sure, you feel the dress itself is lovely. However, at the end of the day, a prom dress is nothing else but a prom dress. It is a dead giveaway of its identity no matter where you go in college. So stop sticking to those frills and puffs that made you feel like a princess, and switch to something more elegant that will make you look like the queen you have become.

College is the time we need to look into our closet and make some very essential style changes. While we can take along some styles with us, there are some styles we need to ditch as soon as high school is over.
