The highly amazing graphics displayed by the Apple iPhone at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2008) definitely looked as though they would make Nintendo DS and Sony PSP obsolete. I know this is hard to believe given the sheer satisfaction a Nintendo console gives in terms of its extremely sophisticated user interface and graphics quality. But the graphics on the iPhone looked just as good.
Sophisticated games requiring excellent graphics, functionality coordination and usage of elaborate features like the Enigmo and Cro Mag rally were demonstrated. Even the demo of Super Monkey Ball was super captivating. Each game is available with AppStore at $9.99 each. So get geared for some features that were only a privilege of the DS and PSP users like wireless downloads and motion sensing.
But do you think Apple’s iPhone can actually replace the Nintendo DS that is much cheaper than it, given the superior developer support, interface and graphics power of the DS? If you can present your kid with the same gaming satisfaction at half the price with the Nintendo DS which is more robust than the iPhone, will you go for the iPhone? Moreover, the battery consumption of the already feature-overloaded multimedia phone is likely to shoot up with this addition.
