Introduction

After sliding the sheath off their official 3D display back at the E3 Show 2011, Sony has finally announced the availability of it’s latest Sony PlayStation 3D Display. Designed aesthetically, the new three-in-one display features the potent capability to function seamlessly with any High Definition gaming console, digital or satellite cable TV box and desktop through component or HDMI cable. Integrated with full 1080p playback, this 24-inch model has been touted to deliver the best-in-class 3D experience for performance and high resolution gaming technology.

What is it?

Sony PlayStation 3D TV is an incredible 24-inch High Definition display that comes bundled with one set of active 3D glasses. The ultra-slim LED screen brings the whole world of HD media by connecting to the user’s cable TV box, PS3 system and PC.

Key features

Enshrouded in 24-inches slim design, the display brings forth an ideal 3D gaming to entertainment spaces that are smaller. The classic PlayStation inspired screen layout has been executed for the most unique gaming experience while the built-in speakers and sub woofers take users to a deeper gaming level with immersive sound. The integration of SimulView technology proffers two individual full 2D HD screen visuals to each player in 2-Player Mode, while the PlayStation 3D Glasses are worn.

The active 3D technology ensures high definition 3D playback, all without having to experience the resolution loss of passive 3D technology. Users can benefit from the embedded Edge LED technology that ascertains brilliant contrast and amazing 240Hz refresh rate for higher quality 3D experience. Besides considerably trimming down 3D crosstalk and ghosting effects, the display also stands distinguished for its Active 3D quality that allows for full HD playback and stylish chassis for maximum comfort.

What’s innovative?

The unique feature ‘SimulView’ enhances the performance by offering each player, their own 2D high definition screen with 3D glasses worn. The new 3D glasses are also better, lighter and less obtrusive than current 3D glasses. There will be lesser crosstalk in 3D images, courtesy significant advancements in 3D technology. Users may even benefit from the unique two-player mode and integrated rechargeable battery that can be charged using micro-USB cable. Sony PlayStation 3D Display is available now at a price of $499.99.

Accessories that could enhance your 3D viewing experience include the official 3D glasses offered by Sony or you can also buy them separately for $69.99. The bundle also houses HDMI cable and a copy of Resistance 3 on Blu-ray disc, costing around $499.99.

The up side

With PlayStation 3D, Sony has yet again exemplified their niche in designing quality products. The 1080p resolution offers the users to indulge in crystal clear viewing with sublime sharpness. Since the display enthusiastically zooms on gamers, the integrated 3D effects are incredible. Besides all this, users may be pleased with the variant’s excellent sound capabilities. The Active 3D quality and built-in USB rechargeable batteries ensure up to 30 hours of battery life without any interruption.

Some other things that users may look forward to include are the intuitive 24-inch screen for high resolution viewing, Edge LED technology for surpassing contrast, 240Hz refresh rate, 1920 x 1080 resolution, two HDMI and one component HD inputs.

The down side

Unfortunately, the feature-rich and performance-driven PlayStation 3D Display from Sony comes minus any remote control. This certainly pushes one to muse whether the company is really trying to highlight the concept of using the display in a tiny room or not. Although this entertainment equipment has been neatly incorporated with several useful characteristics but the model forgets to include any support for USB, offering users another discomfort factor.

Users may fret over the non-existence of USB and thus, won’t be able to charge their 3D glasses. The price point stitched to Sony’s new PlayStation display lies on the heavier side too. Considering the fact that manufacturers from the Display segment have been putting their best foot forward to imbue advanced technologies at a pocket-friendly price for users, Sony PlayStation 3D model looks little unreasonable.

Our experience

We appreciate Sony for creating a display that not only delivers a great viewing experience but also takes 3D to a higher level. It’s definitely promising and features the potency to outweigh other 3D-enabled screens available in the market.

The bottom line

The display certainly appears to be a great pick for users inclined towards immersive gaming sessions with an incredible viewing quality. Though the price tag of around $500 falls on a heaver side, users may still give a thought, if their passion soars higher.
