SkinVision app – Review

SkinVision app - Review
Grow with Dr Prem

SkinVision is a newly launched app designed to check moles for skin cancer signs and indications. However, the app does not deny the need for a follow-up check by a dermatologist. Check out what SkinVision can do for you.

Appearance –

SkinVision is designed to scan lesions or moles so it may predict skin cancer signs at three levels, which include high-, medium- and low-risk lesion. This app analyzes skin lesions through uploaded pictures and provides instant information on the risk category. It is a simple app with an easy user interface. You may get analysis results on the tap of a button. You may also share these results via email and archive a lesion for later tracking.

Performance —

Although the SkinVision app is designed in consultation with expert dermatologists, it can predict risk with only 90 percent precision. Thus, there are chances that you may not receive accurate results after an analysis done by this app. As skin cancer is nothing to be ignored, it is suggested not to depend on the performance of this app and stay away from seeing a dermatologist. Otherwise, the app performs decently in case you only need to confirm your problem. It effectively uses its own algorithm to calculate the risk intensity based on your lesion pictures. The app recognizes your skin pattern through fractal analysis. However, it still does not provide a full diagnosis.

Ease of use —

The app is quite easy to use. You simply need to upload a picture of lesion and the app displays a warning if there is any dangerous or abnormal growth. You may also track the evolution of moles easily over a period of time.

Usefulness —

The SkinVision app follows a risk classification procedure to let you know when the disease of skin cancer is causing high or medium risk and advises you to see a specialist. However, it is not completely precise in terms of its classification or analysis. Thus, you should not avoid taking an action even if the app tells you that you are at low risk. On a positive note, it offers suggestions on nearby doctors, in case you need to see them. Additionally, it can help you in tracking the daily ultraviolet exposure so you may know more about the risk.

Value for money –

You will need to spend around $5 in order to use SkinVision. While this cost is not very high to motivate you to see a doctor, it is still better that you do that on your own.
