Grow with Dr Prem

Break the generic layout of reality simulation with Logitech Flight System G940 and experience remarkably amazing and genuine realism. The device is rigged with some brilliant sound and an authentic feel which is the best after a NASA simulator. Logitech Flight System G940 is a three-component device which includes rudder pedals, dual throttle and force feedback joystick. Users also have the option of 25 programmable buttons which are seamlessly integrated into an extensively featured HOTAS (Hands On Throttle and Stick) design. This enables the users to easily access a variety of critical systems of the aircraft without any disturbance with the controlling pattern.

Clearing the complexities any further comes with the ease of setting up the device. Installation is quick and simple. Done. The box says that it supports both Vista and Windows XP. The features of HOTAS are programmed using the Logitech Profiler which is quite intuitive and displays a basic graphical representation to help users configure the device. It does not get any easier than this and users can also connect all the other featured components by mounting the hard points.

Logitech Flight System G940 is designed to be compatible with most of the famous flight simulators for PC. IL-2 Sturmovik™: 1946, Lock On: Modern Air Combat X-Plane 9, Microsoft® Flight Simulator X are some examples that run with heavenly ease.

Features:

1. Force feedback joystick

Feel the movement of the aircraft and its accurate reaction to buffeting, wind shear g-forces and turbulence with this advanced technology. It has multiples buttons at the top, coolie hat which actually is a mini-stick, 8-way view switch, dual detent trigger and 3 different axis stick trimmers towards the base.

2. Dual throttle

Users can control an aircraft with multi-engine with the option of split lever or they can also have their levers locked they need a sync control or operation of their engines. The throttle moves smoothly along the axis and it can be controlled well with the left hand. There is also a slight detent bumps in the afterburner and idle positions which also adds to the appeal.

3. Rudder pedals with toe brakes

This option brings rudder control which is true-to-life which is in fact a beneficial essential when the users are piloting helicopters, or performing crosswind landings and defensive maneuvers. Pedals assembly operates with utmost smoothness and is stout. The top of each pedal takes a forwards rotation to help users enjoy toe brakes for differential braking on the ground. Rudders’ travel and spacing is perfect and the design also is pretty hefty allowing it to handle a good amount of abuse without emitting any cracking or flexing.

4. Advanced throttle-base buttons

Programmable and Interactive buttons which illuminate green, red, amber and off indicating the various critical statuses of an aircraft system.

5. Authentic design

To give an extensively real experience, the design is inspired by commercial and military aircraft in terms of looks, feel and operations.

6. Hard points

The three-component device can be bolted to a table or other surfaces to give the users a strong experience.

High points:

  • The device has great looks and feel. Material used in the make is rubber enabling a good grip.
  • Joystick buttons are ergonomic.
  • Force feedback vibration simulates the real effect.
  • Rudder pedals are made of stainless steel giving a solid feel.
  • Throttle comes packed with the button to switch and toggle mode which allows users an extensive button configurations.
  • Ton of axes to map.
  • Programming software.
  • Support for lighted condition buttons towards the base of the throttle in the future.

Low points

Control set up can be quite tricky as button configurations conflict from Logitech Profiler or the game. There should be an inclusion of a more detailed guide for configuration. There is a weird buzzing noise at the idle position of the joystick. There are not many games available in the market yet that can take a full advantage of this advanced technology.

It would have been a smarter design if the throttle could have been more contoured, if there would have been an option to adjust the distance between the rudder pedals and detents to locate the center of all of the trim wheels.

So if you have a setup for multi-monitor and a gaming chair which support this device being bolt into it and if flight simulation is a part of your life, you should own the new Logitech Flight System G940. This bad boy system is priced at $299 and would definitely fetch you a ticket to the skies at that price.
