Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S

After Apple launched its ambitious iPhone 4S, other leading companies too are rolling out their big models. Samsung came out with the Nexus and now Sony Ericsson has unveiled its Xperia Arc S, a super smartphone with 1.4GHz processor and many other mind boggling features. Many would say that there is no major change in the Arc S when compared to its predecessor except the processing speed. But even that little change makes a lot of a difference. The phone is ultra-responsive with better handling and feel.

Other than this, there are the usual smart features that make the phone stand out.

What is it?

The phone is being touted as the answer to iPhone 4S and Galaxy S series. You would have to agree with that, given the software and hardware description of the mobile. The phone offers a great camera which you can switch on and shoot in a snap. The browsing experience is flawless as you can download, watch video streams and play games without a hint of buffering.

Sony’s BRAVIA series of Televisions are highly popular in the market these days. So, the company has decided to make use of that in this mobile phone. The Arc S comes with BRAVIA Engine powered reality display which is grand and colorful. The phone is only 8.7mm thin, one of the thinnest smartphones available in the market.

Key fatures

The major talking point of this phone is undoubtedly the 3D experience. The three dimensional technology is getting more and more common these days and most major manufacturers are bringing in their 3D models to the market and Sony Ericsson too has done exactly that with the Arc S. Just pane the phone as the company says and you will end up with beautiful panoramic 3D images.

The phone is packed with all the connectivity features available like HSPA, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. So, connecting the phone with other devices is very easy.

The camera is 8MP with a LED flash that makes photos look real and crisp. Normally, all phones have a microphone to input your voice. But, there is also a second microphone in this phone so that the external noise gets canceled out and the person you are speaking to gets your voice in the best possible manner.

What’s innovative

The 3D feature is the mother of all inventions in this mobile. It is on par with HTC’s Evo 3D and better than other 3D mobiles in the market.

The Timescape overlay is a fantastic feature in the mobile phone. You can see all the related features about your phone like incoming messages, e-mails and connectivity in this timeline with ease. The overview mode too is very cool as it provides the touchscreen a really cool feel.

You can shoot videos in 720p and the HD video playback is flawless. Photoshooting in night is bit dark and that could have been improved. Yet, the phone boasts a camera that is much better when compared to the other mobiles in the market.

Price and availability

The phone is now available in the market. You can get the phone for 370 Euros from the official Sony Ericsson website and probably a few bucks less in the market.

The phone has been launched in markets all over the world. With the phone, you will get a 2GB memory card, screen guard, HDMI cable, charger, headset and micro USB cable. All these accessories are very helpful in connecting your mobile to your computer.

Accessories

You can get loads of innovative accessories for this mobile in the market. One such is the speaker dock to which you can attach the phone and listen to the songs on your phone with rocking music. The music dock will also support other devices like an iPod or MP4 players.

Other accessories include car chargers and solar chargers which will help you to keep the mobile on for longer periods of time.

The up side

The performance of this smartphone is really fast with the 1.4GHz processor and 512 MB of RAM. Now, you have the ability to shoot 3D images on panoramic mode. You also get a better battery with increased talk time. Now, you can also take screenshots in this mobile like you do in your computer.

The down side

Absence of a front-camera and bad text input are two features that have to be corrected in this mobile.

Our experience

The phone is surely the best that Sony Ericsson has produced. It comes with sheer quality but when compared with other mobiles of the same price range, you may feel that the phone is not fairly priced.

The bottomline

If you want Sony Ericsson’s quality and features, there is no mobile better than the Xperia Arc S. Go for it without thinking too much.
