Droid Razr smartphone

Motorola has come up with its second generation RAZR device, the DROID RAZR. The device as you might expect is really powerful with a 1.2 GHz processor, 4.3 inch screen and AMOLED display. The phone also includes the famous Gorilla screen to protect its display.

The phone is operating on Android Gingerbread 2.3.5, the latest version of Android giving it the edge over other Android smart phones.

What is it?

So, it looks as if every manufacturer other than Nokia is producing Android powered smart mobiles these days. Since the number of Android mobiles has increased drastically, the users are getting really picky. So, why do they need to pick up the DROID RAZR over dozen other Android mobiles which offer very much the same features?

When Motorola launched Razr years back, people were amused by its design. Since then no phone from Motorola has matched that. Now, the company has done something superb by combining the design quality of the Razr with the operating quality of the Android.

The phone is only 7.1 mm thin making it the thinnest smart phone in the market. Since it is thin, it also weighs only around 127 grams. Surprisingly, the phone is not at all fragile. It is really solid, gives you a metallic feel and fits your palm perfectly.

The phone also known as the Motorola Spyder is also amazing on the hardware side. The phone has a 1GB DDR RAM along with 16 GB internal storage which is almost thrice than most smart phones on the market. The phone also has a 8MP rear camera with a decent 1.3 MP front camera for video calling. Other features include a 3.5mm audio jack, support for upcoming Android 4, Ice cream sandwich and 1080p video recording.

Key features

The main feature has to be the 1.2Ghz processor which is the fastest and most powerful on the market. The Capacity touchscreen along with the speed processor gives you irresistible navigation experience. The screen moves as if it is made out of water. There is no hint of lagging while multi-tasking as well. Another key feature is the 1780 mAh battery which will offer you 11 hours of talk time. You can also listen to music for around 24 hours through this powerful battery.

The phone also supports Google features such as YouTube, GMail and other social networking sites like Facebook as well. The online video streaming is really fast.

What’s innovative?

The phone is really solid in looks and feel. Motorola has used stainless steel to build the body of the phone and that is an really innovative idea. While using most phones, you have to be extra careful near water area. Now, with the new nanotech coating of the DROID RAZR, you don’t have to do that. This is probably the first ever Android – powered phone with splash resistance.

Price and availability

The phone will be available in the market from the next month. It will be priced around 450 Euros. If you are living in the US, you can get the phone for around $300 with two year agreement from Verizon. The price is not too much when you see what you get.

The accessories

The phone also supports a bunch of accessories. The first being the GPS navigation deck which is really useful while driving. You can also attach a large Bluetooth keyboard with the device which makes the typing experience really easy. You can also connect the phone to Motorola’s HD Dock station for better entertainment.

The up side

A smart phone has to have to smart actions right? We took the ‘smart’ criteria for testing with the DROID RAZR and we found it amazing. For instance, when you are in home, your phone will automatically detect the Wi-Fi. When you give that as your home connection, the Wi-Fi will automatically switch on when you are inside your home and will automatically turn off when you leave home. This smart feature will save you time, effort as well as your battery life.

The down side

The phone is a CDMA model and that is a big downside. It can operate only with in-built service providers.

Our experience

We took the phone for testing and found it to be really solid, quick and witty. All the applications switched on as if they are in-built and the multi-tasking too was really smooth. Overall, a great phone to be precise.

The bottom line

If you are getting bored with the existing set of Androids, the DROID RAZR is the phone for you. It’s new, it looks cool and it is smart.
