Lenovo LePhone S2

First look

Lenovo LePhone S2 is yet to be launched in different markets around the globe. But the phone is already making waves. It is rumored to a dual boot configuration phone that will run on two of most competitive yet excellent operating systems-Android and Windows Phone 7. This phone is currently limited to the Chinese market. Although it is one of the most common phones in China that run on Android, but it is probably one of the few that run on Windows Phone 7 and definitely the only one that runs on the combination of both. Americans and Europeans are eyeing for its release in their countries because the phone boasts about its powerful processor, strong operating systems and an interactive user interface.

This Android phone will run on Windows Phone 7 system and will assess if the S2 hardware can easily come in terms with the latest Windows software. Considering that the phone has 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor, one can assume that the phone would be able to run both of them without any extra effort. The capacitive display of 480X800 pixels resolution would be a good buy.

What’s new?

This phone is just a plain smartphone, but it is a super phone. As discussed earlier, the best thing about this phone would be amalgamation of two different operating systems. But this isn’t exactly an amalgamation. At startup, this phone would ask the user to select the preferred operating system, ensuring that you can run the phone in two different ways. Two phone in one! Sounds good!

Certainly dual booting two different operating systems together is something that the users are pretty much used to. But it would be interesting to see how these two different and strong operating systems will function. That is why the engineers in China are doing hardware tests to ensure that a perfect product reaches the market.

What’s been refreshed?

The looks of the phone have been refreshed apart from the unusual operating system. The latest dual core processor would make processing speeds faster and easier user interface than the previous LePhone model. Also the 8 megapixel camera is a good addition to a capacitive screen of 480X800 pixels. It is also expected that the latest Android and Windows Phone 7 software would be provided in this phone. This would ensure that the users get more and more applications from the Android apps market and Windows Phone 7 apps market.

At the same time, the availability of two operating systems will get be a great addition to the phone and would probably increase internet browsing and downloading speeds. The customer can select his operating system depending upon what speeds and applications s/he wants to use. All in all, this can be a refreshing experience to people who have only used Android or have only experienced Windows Phone 7. This may provide us the best of both worlds.

Features walkthrough

This mysterious new phone would have 1GHz processor of Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM 8255 and an 8 megapixels camera that can record videos at a screen resolution of 720 pixels. It will be laced with the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread and Windows Phone as its system preferences.

What’s good?

The addition of both Android and Windows Phone 7 is absolutely a good addition. Also, the processor would offer high speeds. Screen resolution is average but image clicking can be a whole new experience with the 8 megapixels camera. It can be an engineering marvel if the hardware is perfected.

What’s not so good?

If both the operating systems clash or don’t work well once they are out in the market, then the phone would see its doomsday soon. This year an Android-powered Nokia phone was also launched on similar prototype of two operating systems but clashed badly in the market. If the phone is only launched in China than the market for Windows Phone 7 will fall as the system has Twitter and Facebook integrated well, though these social networking sites have been banned in several places. Also, the display doesn’t sounds too good at 480X800 resolutions. Several phones with higher resolution are available in the market. Apart from this the touchscreen is neither LED nor LCD which may be a disadvantage.

Price and availability

No information about the price is available as of yet. There is no information regarding the launch of the phone, but it is expected to be launched in early 2012.

Wrap up

The phone is certainly promising, but the success of the phone largely depends upon how the two operating systems are integrated. Apart from this, the engineers from Lenovo must also work on the development of a better display and screen so that the phone can easily win hearts. Rest time will tell.
