Nokia 808 Pureview
Nokia 808 Pureview is due for launch in May but there is already tremendous buzz around the product. It made its presence felt at the Mobile World Congress 2012 and was adjudged as the Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet. Technical Image Press Association bestowed on it the honor of Best Imaging Innovation for 2012. The applause that’s coming its way owes it to Nokia’s new Pureview Imaging technology with a 41 MP camera sensor using Carl Zeiss Optics.Despite the camera being the prominent feature of this phone, it is not its only USP. The sound quality of this phone is another excellent feature to talk about.
The single core 1.3 GHz processor does not fare well against competition with phones in the same price range which sport dual core processors. It has a 1400 mAh Lithium ion battery. The battery life in standby mode is 465 hours for 2G usage and 540 hours for 3G use. The talk-time is about 11 hours and 6 hour 50 minutes respectively for 2G and 3G.
The Nokia 808 Pureview has a 1.3 GHz processor coupled with 512 MB RAM and 1 GB ROM. The internal storage memory of the phone is 16 GB. The memory can further be expanded to 32 GB. It uses Nokia’s Symbian Belle operating system.
The most significant feature of the phone is its rear camera which has a 41 MP sensor with Carl Zeiss optics. It comes with LED video light, Xenon Flash and ND filter. The oversampling technology in use ensures sharp pictures while enabling ease of sharing as well. This is because the pictures are saved and stored in a compact form. In addition, it has a 0.3 MP front camera.
This phone is compatible with a Dolby headset as it comes pre-installed with applications for the purpose. It can be connected even with a home theater system. Dolby on/off mode allows you to control the sound quality as per your choice.
It is 3G enabled and supports WLAN and Bluetooth. GPS is also enabled on this phone which has an HTML browser with Adobe Flash lite. It is compatible with Java MIDP 2.1.
Nokia 808 Pureview weighs 169 gms. The dimensions of the phone are 123.9 x 60.2 x 13.9 mm. This makes it quite thick in comparison to several high-end phones available in the market. It has a 4 inch AMOLED capacitative touchscreen with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels and 16 M colors which is bright and clear. The build quality has a plastic and rubberized feel to it but is slick nonetheless. The sensor at the rear of the phone has a lens cover on top of it. It has a 3.5 mm audio connector along with Micro HDMI and Micro USB ports at the top. It is available in black, white and red colors.
The price at which this phone will be available to Indian consumers is not known as yet but given the kind of features that this latest marvel from Nokia comes with, it is likely to be priced more than Rs. 30,000. The use of the Symbian Belle OS in the phone in place of a Windows platform may prove to be a dampener. At this price range the phone will get tough competition from Android phones that are features packed and provide access to thousands of apps. The Symbian OS on Nokia 808 Pureview does not give the users that option.
