Micromax C114

You have to travel for next 12 hours and you have already started to dread the journey. One of the options is to text or call your boyfriend/girlfriend and chat with him/her. Seems to be a fairly interesting idea but will your phone support these long hours of talk. Well! the answer is probability is no if you’re carrying one of those high-end touchscreen phones whose batteries seems to drain down quickly. C114 is a new phone from Micromax that might be answer to your needs as it claims to come with a “Marathon” battery that offers a talk-time of up to 11 hours. The CDMA phone has some other impressive features under its sleeve but to know them you’ll have to go through our complete review.

Performance

The USP of this phone is its long lasting battery life and given to our tests it didn’t disappoint. Its 1800 mAh Li-ion battery simply does an amazing job day after day and you’ll never be short of battery in case you keep charging it after 2-3 days. It gives you the talk-time of 11 hours and standby time of 25 days. It comes with a pretty slick display for is price tag. It also has a superior call quality compared to other phones in this category and its performance matched up to some high-end phones, which according to us is pretty impressive. You can also use is as a modem to surf the web, all you have to do is install the USB and PC Suite drivers on your computer.

Features

Dr Prem Tech and Web Services

C114 is a CDMA phone that operates at a frequency of 800MHz-single band. The 1.7-inches colored TFT screen offers you a vibrant experience with support for 65000 different colors. It is a basic phone whose in-built memory supports 300 messages and 200 contacts at a time. The memory is limited to this and cannot be extended with external memory cards. It cannot play your audio/video but compensates for the multimedia with its stereo FM radio. You can record your calls on this phone but given to its miniscule in-built memory that option seems not to be of much help. In terms of connectivity you can connect it to your computer as a modem and can use it to surf the web, though the same capabilities are missing in the phone itself. It doesn’t support Java and has no camera, though widgets such as calender, calculator , alarm and clock are pretty useful. The set of preloaded games is useful in case you’re stuck somewhere and it is important to kill some time. We might look like saying here that the phone is missing too many features but given the price tag it cannot be expected to meet all your needs. In case you expect it to do so you need to shell out some more for an alternate Micromax handset.

Design

It is a pocket-friendly candybar phone with the dimensions of 113.6 x 44.7 x 14.95 mm, boarding a 1.77-inches color TFT screen. It’s pretty light-weight too weighing just 81 grams meaning it’s light on your pocket as well as your hand and it wouldn’t be much of a hassle to carry the device around. The build mostly consists of plastic with a red lining on the rim of the phone. Just below the screen there is a Micromax logo below which lies a big square button that activates loudspeaker. The standard alphanumeric keyboard can be used for dialing as well as texting purposes.

Bottomline

The reason to buy this phone is its stellar battery performance that won’t let you down hours after hours. We do accept that you might miss standard features such as camera and audio/video player on this gadget but we think that these features were better avoided to save the battery life for longer time. Anyhow the camera quality at this price range phones is not much useful for day-to-day purposes so we won’t crib about that. The ability to connect it your computer and use it as a modem just adds further to its charm. We don’t think you get 1800mAh battery phones at a price tag of Rs 1250 and Micromax gives you an opportunity to grab one.
