The project

iPod docks are the latest trend of today. iPod docks are both striking and practical at the same time. Put it in a simplified manner, it is one thing that makes life easier for us. So, every time you want to gear up your iPod, all you really need is an iPod dock. There are many iPod dock connectors available but of course they are costly and are sure to dig a hole in your wallet. But now you can easily make an iPod dock at home, rather than spending a hefty price for it. Follow these simple steps and get your very own iPod dock in no time. Before you get started you need to shop for parts and the things that you would require for making your own iPod dock. The main idea of building an iPod dock is to make your connections strong all the time.

Difficulty level: Easy

Resources required: iPod, rubber band, sync cable for connecting Apple dock connector to USB cable, large binder clip

Instructions

Step 1: Hold on to the buttons properly

The first thing that you need to do is force down the two buttons on each side of your iPod sync cord in completely and then cover a rubber band around it securely. You will require the buttons to stay packed in, so the rubber band has to be secured tight enough for it. If the grip is loose, then this iPod dock will not function properly.

Step 2: Work on the handles

The next thing that you need to do is flip the handles of the binder clip back. Imagine yourself pinching to a clip or a stack of paper. Now you have to feed the USB end of the Apple dock connector to the USB cable that is the sync cord of course, through one of the handles that is there on the binder clip. Once this is done, you can move to step 3.

Step 3: Let the binder clip open up

Now nip the handles of the binder clip so that they open up. Once it opens you need to join the cable that is at the end of the dock connector to the clip. The prongs should face away from the handles and then finally let it close.

Step 4: Turn the clip upside down

Now, you need to lay the binder clip inverted with the handles extending to the desk and the dock prongs lining to the connector.

Step 5: Make the connection

Finally, connect the USB end of the sync cord to your PC. You are almost done. All that is now required to be done is to use your self-made iPod dock every time you want to by simply adding the iPod on the connector to the cable and then pulling it off when you are all set to go.
