Motorola Droid RAZR

First look

What has a 1.2GHZ dual core processor, 1GB DDR2Ram, 4.3” Super AMOLED Screen and a 8MP Camera…Well, the answer has been provided to us by Motorola. The mobile giant has launched their new handset Motorola DROID RAZR on 11/11/11 at exactly 11:11 AM.

Well, given the auspiciousness of the date and the association with the ones in this date, the news has certainly been eye revolving. If rumors are to be believed, then it is said to be priced also at $111. It’s on time to tell if the old handset design with new features will be a success or failure.

What’s new?

The first thing one would tend to notice is the reduction in the size of the phone. The new DROID version measures about 7.11 mm in thickness and around 10.6 mm at the top.

Playing host to an 8MP camera, a headphone jack and some micro USB outlets, the phone has come back to take revenge for its previous outdated models. Currently being accompanied by a 16 GB pre-installed memory card, the new improved DROID model definitely is an improvement in terms of the memory space.

The body of the phone boasts of a mix of aluminum, Kevlar and Gorilla glass. The stunning combination of this material lends an extremely seductive and mind blowing look to the body, making it a hit with the crowds. Even though the weight of the phone is as good as negligible, the sturdiness of the phone can’t be overlooked or underestimated at any given time.

The phone incorporates the most cutting edge technology, further coupling it up with the latest mobile dual 1.2 GHz core processor, Gingerbread 2.3.5 and a collection of happening 3D animations.

What’s been refreshed?

Sporting a refreshing new look, Motorola’s new invention has wooed the crowds with not one but many features. May it be in terms of the reduced thickness, giving it the tag of the world’s thinnest phone, Moto’s DROID shall enjoy the title for the next few years.

The 1.2 GHz processor awards the phone with a faster processing speed, in comparison to some of its earlier counterparts. The RAZR has the capacity of rebooting itself within a whopping 12-20 seconds.

The 1780 mAh battery is definitely an improvement in terms of the battery backup. You can be expected to have a 8.5 days of standby time and 12.5 hours of uninterrupted talk time with the back up.

Features walkthrough

Being titled as the thinnest phone in the world at just about 7.1 mm, the phone stands proudly enjoying its new status. Even though it’s been made with such dimensions, the other features of the phone have definitely not been compromised.

The body has been crafted out of KEVLAR fibre and Gorilla glass, making the screen pretty much scratch free and water repellent.

The MotoCast app from Motorola lets the user stream free pictures, documents and music from your computers. Given the processing speed of the dual processor, the phone just about lets you access data and application the way one would want to. The camera commands clarity and gives crystal clear photographs, making it all the more enjoyable.

What’s good?

The new version Razr has it all when it comes to design and quality. Right from the perfect glittering looks to the tough scratch resistant body, DROID has it all.

The 4.3 inch screen of the phone brings forth extra clarity, thanks to the Super AMOLED Advanced, providing it an extra resolution and more pixels.

If you are an avid web surfer and like to be connected with the world from your phone, then Razr is the best device for you. It has an excellent command of 4G speeds and web browsing, sometimes even averaging around 12.3 Mbps in downloads. You can expect the phone to open a website anywhere between 3-7 seconds as compared to its earlier counterparts.

Promising to deliver a clear sound quality to the user, DROID ensures to provide maximum input in terms of quality and voice. The battery backup looks good, while the phone comes equipped with a 1780 mAh battery ensconced inside its slick body covering.

What’s not so good?

When Motorola launched the previous versions of Razr, it milked it dry in terms of publicity and usage. While the phone was quickly rendered obsolete in terms of quality and technology, the new Razr seems to be off the mill again.

The body structure of DROID may make it the world’s thinnest phone, but the jutting out features of the phone lend it a very unconventional and non charming look. The keys in the side of the phone make it all the more clumsy and slippery.

With reference to the 8MP camera, even though the phone boasts of a high definition picture quality, there is not much to look forward to. The picture quality can be classified as medium, when compared with some of the other counterparts in the market.

The battery backup is good in terms of the call and audio quality. However, when it comes to surfing and accessing the net, the battery gets consumed at a speed even faster than an ostrich’s sprint.

Price and availability

Slashing all set rumors around the price, the phone has set forth a launching record. The gadget has been successfully launched on 11/11/11 at precisely 11:11 AM. Pricing the phone at $299, and not $111 (as per rumors based on the fascination of the number one), Verizon has started accepted pre orders for the same.

Wrap up

While the phone has been launched to a lot of mixed reviews, it seems the views about it are divided. People need to definitely weigh the pros and cons of the device before they actually make the big decision.

Titled as the world’s thinnest phone till date definitely gives it an edge over other handsets. However, the fact that it may not justify its $299 price tag is also a remote possibility. It shall enjoy the spotlight till as long as it can, but the fact is yet to see if the phone shall live up to the fame the other Razr models were unable to sustain for long.

Here’s wishing all the best to Motorola for the newly launched handset.
