LG Revolution

It’s today’s smartphone – LG Revolution. Great features like 1000MHz Qualcomm processor, HDMI port, 4G Mobile hotspot, front facing 5 megapixel camera and 720p video recording – all you wished from your smart phone. Also consider the fact that it’s Verizon’s first experiment with the popular Android 2.2 platform. And it offers the added advantage of the popular Netflix application too. That’s not all about why this handset is attracting so much attention of the market. LG has surely improved its phone in various ways. Be it the shape, its sleek design or internal operating system or any other consideration. Customers believe that it’s going to break through all technical difficulties one previously had to grapple with in others. No doubt it still has its flip side too, like the old search and map options. These are powered by Bing and not Google, the more reliable one. One misses that comfortable default keyboard and the Verizon apps seem to be forcefully foisting themselves on the users as they can’t be removed. Then, some users find the call quality compromised a bit. Its price range too has been called just too ambitious.

What is it:

The company claims LG Revolution a major wow-machine, underlining its superior speed. that speed is achieved combining 1GHz Snapdragon Processor with LG and Verizon’s 4G LTE chipset and Network. The trio does provide the device a power to give its users a wholesome entertainment. Still, some felt put down a bit asthey expected to see Revolution as a worked up version of the previous dual-core offering LG Optimus 2X. Instead, the new entrant debuted at CES 2011 in Las Vegas with Verizon features. But the design aspect more than compensates for what is lost in features. Revolution measures 5.1 inches long, 2.6 inches wide and 0.5 inch thick. It has a 4.3-inch display to aid better viewing. Then, the soft matte dress on its back and gun-metal sides feel soothing the user’s hands. It’s got all the right curves at its corners too. Then one has got to talk about that 800×480-pixel LCD. It’s vibrant and sharp, so forget that nagging pressure of 6.06 oz weight the device exerts on your palm. Also, LG has lent a caring ear to its customer feedback. The shortcuts on the bottom row of the phone’s home screen tells that. LG In Touch widget, for quick visual access to the phone’s media library too is a hit with the users. Last, but not the least is the presence of the Friends widget to sync all the phone contacts with Facebook and Twitter contacts.

Key features:

Dr Prem Tech and Web Services

The LG Revolution supports Verizon’s 4G-LTE network. That means an average download speed of up to 12Mbps and upload speed of 5Mbps. Net browsing on this smart phone feels like a gentle breeze. The quality of streaming video too tells of the power this Revolution has been planned to express. The popular app Netflix too demonstrates how close a tab LG kept on its customers’ choice. Since AAndroid phones of all hues are working towards pre-installing it in their devices, LG has already taken a lead. The company has not forgotten even that Kindle, Bitbop, Rhapsody, Polaris Office, Rock Band, and other apps of their class. Need more apps? Just go to the V Cast App store or the Android Market.

What’s innovative:

LG has, this time around, put much emphasis on customers’ likings. So, it has been enabled to allow streaming video in a wireless manner to other similar handsets using DLNA technology. That could be done via LG’s SmartShare app. Thus, watching videos on a handset is no more a bad idea – Revolution’s 720p HD video playback ability together with its support for DivX video playback for WMV, MP4, 3GP and 3G2 formats.

Price and availability:

LG Revolution is rather uppish in its costing. It has been pitted in the $250-300 range. If one wants to buy one online, Amazon is the place to look for.

The up side:

This phone moves with one’s heart – real fast, that is. While original droids are a bit laggards in this respect, LG Revolution doesn’t lag at anything. It’s shell, too, is quite luxurious. The 4G mobile hot spot is nice and the phone is equally compatible with 3G services. LG is perhaps trying to woo the third world market too with that feature. It’s designed in a very contemporary way to attract the jaded attention of consumers in this hot market segment.

The down side:

As Revolution comes on the heels of HTC Thunderbolt and Samsung Droid, some more goodies were expected of it than it indeed sports. One feels strongly against that lack of dual core power. Then, the company has disappointed many with the lackluster battery life of the phone. And, as they say, the design aspect of the phone too hasn’t got too many points to boast of. Its plastic construction, hard lines, and soft touch matte back do not exhibit anything new.

The Bottomline:

Aside from that issue of battery life, Revolution can hardly be called a lesser entity. Its build quality is flawless, rivaled only by super amoled plus and iPhone. Then, that intelligent DLNA SmartShare feature does not come with every other smart phone in the market. It has got its own weaknesses but these do not rule the device out of context.
