BlackBerry Torch 9850

Cell phone displays are no more restricted to the 2.8 inch screens. They are now growing in size and no more are traditional 2.8 inch BlackBerry smartphone screens modern. Keeping this changing trend in mind, RIM (Research in Motion), the makers of the BlackBerry have re-invented the wheel, or could we say re-invented the smartphone. Coming to RIM’s rescue is BlackBerry Torch 9850. Since BlackBerry Storm line didn’t quite whip up frenzy amongst customers with its 3.7 inch touch screen, Torch is envisioned as a saving grace for the company’s bottom line.

What is it?

The Torch 9850 is a svelte looking phone with world phone capabilities. Clearly indicating its choice of customers with the world phone capabilities, Torch 9850 still maintains the 3.7 inch touch screen that Storm has.

The full touch screen form is something that is enduring amongst customers. Unlike Storm and Storm 2, which did not have the full touch screen form, this one has. Apart from this novelty, there is also new hardware used to manufacture Torch 9850.

There has been tremendous improvement in the product design. The rounded edges of Torch 9850 and the all-round high-end design make the Torch a ready contender to its competitors.

Talking about product design, here are some of the use cases. To unlock the phone, press the top of the phone. Control the volume of the stereo on the right side of the phone using the rubber keys. Launch the camera using the quick-launch option on the touch screen.

Key features:

Torch 9850 supports second and third generation networks. You can use it to download multimedia regardless of the type of network. The multi-touch, capacitive touch screen is empowered by excellent graphics. The touch screen has a resolution of 400 x 800 pixels, and can be viewed under bright sunlight too.

What’s innovative?

Torch 9850 is as per RIM the smartphone with the largest touch screen compared to other RIM products. The smartphone is for official and personal use, and can blend in both of these roles seamlessly. Using BlackBerry’s proprietary BlackBerry OS, the smartphone uses HTML 5 to display web pages.

Featuring a lot of apps, and games, Torch 9850 is also not short on social networking capabilities. The Social Feeds app is now in an enhanced version with the ability to capture different types of media from a range of sources. Torch 9850 has the Universal Search feature that lets you conduct voice based searches.

You can record video and output it using the 720p HDMI port. The graphics on Torch 9850 are fluid, courtesy Liquid Graphics technology.

Torch 9850 has a security feature that lets you remotely purge data from it. You can safely store data in it and its security features ensure that other applications are not using it clandestinely.

For a price of $199, you get to create a whole new way of how you conduct your day to day activities. The Torch 9850 smartphone helps you achieve that with its intelligent features, great product design, and all-round smartphone capabilities.
