When we first saw BlackBerry Style 9670, a huge flip phone with a QWERTY keypad hidden inside, we were sceptical, but after experiencing its BlackBerry 6 OS, competent camera and fast processor, we can say that this is a good smartphone. It is one of the best handsets and at the same time one of the terrific messaging devices. Though the screen is on the smaller side, one can still be satisfied with its overall performance. Hence, Style is a stylish device, which can fulfill all your mobile needs.
Keyboard of the phone is fine for sending emails, but frequent messaging can be painful. External display works well to display incoming calls, time and message previews. Processor always performs well and handles everything with ease. Style 9760 ensures a high quality music experience and its camera does a competent work. Call quality and signal reception is excellent. Audio output is great from both loudspeaker and headphones.
Style 9760 comes with dual display internal 2.46 inch TFT LCD that shows 262 K colors at 360X400 pixels resolution and an external display that has 240X320 pixels resolution. The handset includes a 5 megapixel camera with flash that shoots VGA videos, 512 MB of onboard memory and a micro SD slot that handles cards up to 32 GB. It runs on Blackberry OS 6 and is powered by a 624 MHz processor. The handset features a full QWERTY keypad and a track ball. Connectivity options include 3G, WiFi and GPS. Powered by an 1150 mAhr rechargeable battery, the phone gives a talk time of 4.5 hours and standby time of 10 days. It operates at frequencies of CDMA 800/ 1900 MHz / CDMA2000 1xEV-DO MHz.
The handset features a media player that supports almost all the audio file formats including MP3, eAAC+, WMA and many more. There are dedicated keys on the top to control the music player. Videos formats supported by the media player include H.263, MPEG4 Simple Profile 3, H.264 and WMV.
With its ravishing looks, Style 9760 has the potential to attract all users, especially youngsters and business class consumers. It comes in two stylish colors, black and lavender. Overall length, width and depth of this handset is 96X60X18.5mm respectively along with the weight of 131 grams. At first glance, Style 9760 looks like a flip phone or a makeup kit widened to include a large external screen. Hinges feels sturdy and you will like the brushed metal appearance of the phone. Glossy front works as a fingerprint magnet and people with smaller hands will face difficulty to close the lid with one hand.
Front of the handset is dominated by 2 inch screen that shows a large analogue clock with other status indicator around the edges. When you receive an email or text message, it gives a preview of that and then again returns to the clock. On the right side, you will find a camera button and volume controller while left part has a charging port, micro SD card door and 3.5 mm stereo jack. Once you open the lid, you will get the standard Blackberry controls: Call, menu, return and end call, optical track pad in the centre and QWERTY keypad below. Charging contacts are located at the bottom, so that you can also use the device while it is charging.
We always get worried when a company uses the word “style,” because most of the stylish phones go down on performance. Then what should we expect from Style 9760? Is it falling in the same category or with style it also has the performance and features? Well, it has an attractive case and it performs well in other sections as well. Overall, we can say that Style 9760 delivers a stylish BlackBerry experience and social networking features at an affordable price. However, the flip-up screen can be a bit too much for a die-hard BlackBerry fan and if you are going to use it for messaging, it may feel terrible.
