Android L: Review

Android L: Review
Grow with Dr Prem

At its recently held I/O developer conference, Google launched the preview build of its latest Android OS version 5.0, which is also called Android L (perhaps “Lollipop”).

Appearance

Android L supports a new dynamic lock screen that lets you check your notifications on the home screen itself. Thus, you will not have to go in to check your missed calls or messages. However, you may not be able to access a few notifications on the lock screen. If there is no lock screen, then all notifications can be accessed without any restriction. Additionally, Google can soon allow phone unlocking to some trusted environments, such as your home Wi-Fi. Apart from this, the new look in terms of redesigned icons is not actually appealing. On the other hand, the new keyboard and menu options on Android L are tidier and nicer to use.

Performance

With the new Android version, you may notice enhanced performance. The focus has been put on adding new monitoring tools that are expected to help developers greatly. Thus, users may expect better apps that increase the performance. Android L also aims at enhancing the battery life of Smartphones. Thus, you may receive a longer battery life with Android 5.0. The new version of Android OS will also make troubleshooting more effective.

Ease of use

The icons and menu on Android L are redesigned for easier use. However, the shadowy effects and new flat graphical look may actually confuse some of the users. In fact, the fresh changes simply add to aesthetics and do not mean much. You might sometimes find it uneasy to use the menu while multitasking.

Quality

Android L has a better visual appeal while it still needs to be worked on. The core OS may be modified before its final launch. Overall, it is okay on the quality factor. If you compare it to iOS, Android L still lacks on some useful developer features and visual appeal. However, its quality is good when we look at the customization options given to users.

Reputation

Google has always worked hard on all its Android versions. It is to be seen how hardware companies further make use of their new version of Android OS. That will reflect the ultimate reputation of Android L. However, Google’s name behind it is sufficient to tell the story to users.
