The rumor mill is churning with the news of Apple’s iPhone 5 release date. The phone might not yet be out but its competitors are already pitching their contenders to the iPhone in the market. Most of the phones, which are sure to give the Apple iPhone a stiff competition, are running on Android. Samsung’s Hercules is rumored to be the next iPhone killer and the buzz has it that it is more powerful than the Samsung Galaxy S II.

According to sources, the phone marries the best features and technology of Samsung’s Galaxy S II and Infuse 4G. It is rumored to have a 4.5 Super Amoled Plus touchscreen with 800×480 pixels resolution. It is likely to be powered by a 1.2/1.5 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual core processor with 1 GB RAM. It will run on Android 2.3. Although there is no official word out on its release date, the Hercules will most likely be released in September, around the time iPhone 5 is slated to release.
