Zion National Park’s two entrances go solar with 2-kW photovoltaics

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (APRA) funding enabled Zion National Park to extend its reliance on renewable energy by installing solar photovoltaic systems at the south and east entrance stations. Capable enough to meet half of the power requirements of these stations, these are tied to the electrical grid to hold off any use of storage batteries.

The Federal support will also pave the way for installing similar systems at the administration building, the Kolob Canyons Visitor Center and the emergency operations center. The projects are supposed to supply the park facilities with 85 kilowatts of electricity when they become operational.
