Chinese citizens will soon get the privilege to travel by high speed trains. The Chinese Ministry of Railways has hired Bombardier’s Chinese joint venture Bombardier Sifang Transportation Ltd., to provide 80 ZEFIRO 380 very high speed trains. China’s fast-growing network of high-speed rail will advance towards a faster, greener and better future with these very fast and very efficient trainsets.
A ZEFIRO 380 train will incorporate the use of three types of cars: motorized end cars, intermediate trailer cars with and without pantograph, and intermediate motorized cars. This super speed mode of transport is capable of touching a speed of 380 kilometers per hour. Based on Bombardier’s next-generation ZEFIRO high-speed rail technology, the trains are powered by Bombardier MITRAC propulsion and control system. The ECO 4 energy saving technology creates operating efficiencies with substantial overall energy savings of up to 50%.
The contract, including 20 eight-car trainsets and 60 sixteen-car trainsets, is estimated at 27.4 billion Chinese Renminbis ($4 billion US, 2.7 billion Euros). The first ZEFIRO 380 is scheduled for delivery in 2012, while the final ones are expected in 2014.
