Yahoo launches greenest city competition

In an effort to save the planet Earth from global warming and keeping it green, Yahoo has launched its green city competition. At the end of competition an American city would be awarded as America’s Greenest City and would be given a feet of hybrid taxis. Yahoo co-founder David Filo, actor Matt Dillon and Global Green USA CEO Matt Petersen were present at the launch of the competition at Time Square.

Through the campaign – Be a Better Planet – Yahoo has requested Americans to make some alterations in their lifestyle to combat global warming. The competition is open to all lawful American citizens, who are registered members of Yahoo and are above 13 years.

To participate one needs to visit the Be a Better Planet website and follow the instructions. The more one signs up the green actions the more points are awarded to his city. The city that gets the maximum number in this way will be the America’s greenest city.

The three steps that can bag your city this coveted award are:

1. Answer a question on Yahoo! Answers.

2. On your mobile phone go to Yahoo oneSearch and type green keywords like organic food and public transport along with your zip code to locate local resources.

3. Take up 30 different actions that will eventually help in planet-protection so that your personal activities reduce carbon emissions and also track others activities to see that how their efforts are making a difference.

Each best answer of will earn you 10 ‘green’ points. In ‘Environment’ category the Best Answers will earn 75 points. Participants will also get a free energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulb CFL till supplies last.
