Want to grow your own tree house

Grow your own tree house? Yes, you read it right and I’m not joking. Tree houses have always fascinated me and I never knew that you could grow one.
Here’s how it is done:
Architects Mitchell Joachim and Javier Arbona, teamed up with environmental engineer Lara Greden say that their concept is to have a computer-designed plywood structure on ground and grow vines, plants and trees that get interconnected over the structure. Once they stand firm, the plywood structure is removed and the inside of the walls will be packed with clay and plaster.

The architects have been experimenting with Israeli plants as they are soft enough to be ‘trained’ over the plywood. And how do you grow windows? They have been experimenting with soy-based windows that could stretch with a home’s exterior.Since the whole concept is to have a eco-friendly home, you can expect green technologies like solar power and rainwater harvesting to be incorporated in it.

The drawback?
– It takes a minimum of five years for the trees to grow and that’s the period you will have to wait before you cozy up in your dream tree house. Conceptually, it’s a great idea. I wonder if anyone is willing to wait that long to see their dream home come true, when you can build homes these days overnight with pre-fabricated structures.

Anyway, before you make up your mind, check out the video of the concept and see if you like it.
