Vestas, the world’s leading supplier of wind power solutions, has yet again come up with a specially optimized offshore model of wind turbine. The company hopes to unveil it at the European Offshore Wind Conference in Stockholm, Sweden, today itself. Dubbed as the V112-3.0 MW, the highly dependable turbine adapts itself to wind speeds as low as 9.5 m/s. It’s capable of generating more power than any other wind turbine available it its class.
Its 112m rotor-blades sweep over an area of 9,852 m² at 14 rpm. Having a permanent magnet generator, its highly sound mechanism offers an exceptional rotor-to-generator ratio. Vestas hopes to make it available to its high-profile clients by 2011, while the first turbine will go operational by 2010 hopefully.
