Telehouse West recycles waste heat from computers

Working on laptops for long hours usually gets tiring. The heat generated is almost awful and unbearable. Situation becomes even grimmer in large IT centers where you don’t work on a single machine. Therefore, taking initiative to provide a solution, TeleHouse Europe proposes to transfer this 9MW of heat to 450 local homes across London’s Dockland. Well, you need to wait until 2010 to see TeleHouse do it actually.

What makes the concept work?

A heat exchange unit at TeleHouse will force water to reach the local site. From here, the house developers like Baratt Homes, who have shown tremendous interest in the project, could transfer it to their sites. Now, the buildings can optimize the in-house temperatures via another heat exchange unit. Such projects might protect the environment against 1,110 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Nevertheless, all depends on funding since this is the major area of concern for the providers and the developers as well.
