Steve Meadows transforms trash into lifelike sculptures

Steve Meadows is one of those gifted artists who don’t always go after expensive primal matter to create masterpieces. Relying on his creativity, he transforms trash and other found objects into fanciful and humorous sculptures, delivering them in his unique style. His SD Meadows Art Gallery in downtown Palestine, Illinois, is the one-stop destination for those wishing to learn the essentials of the “Trash-to-Treasure” genre of creativity.

Here, at the Artist Relocation Project, Steve describes his way of delivering works of genius from redundant waste:

I have local friends who know what I want to create a lot of things. I find things left behind my building. I do a lot of things with shovels or rakes. The rakes can be the gills of fish. I take a torch and blowtorch leaf rakes like [they are] crazy hair. I go to Canton, Texas, once in a while. … Once a month they have a flea market with 7,000 vendors. A guy can go there and get about anything you want. Last time I went, I spent about $350 picking up junk. The most expensive thing I bought was for $3.
