After braving against many a slip between its conception and realization, the solar rickshaws are ready to take to the Delhi roads. Conceived back in 2008, the Soleckshaws went through some technical delays on some actually valid issues. However, you’ll see them serving sports fans and locals alike when the 2010 Commonwealth Games kicks off in October.
The vehicles will come equipped with a specially designed 36-volt battery-powered electric motor to carry two passengers at 9 mph for about 25 miles per charge. The exhausted batteries could be replaced with fully-charged ones at solar-powered charging stations. To make it comfortable for the passengers, the rickshaw will have mobile phone charging points for the riders and FM radio for entertainment too.
