What will you call this truth or simply a farce? After environmentalists and scientists the world over clamoring about the dangers of global warming, a group of scientists has come forward with a new theory that climate change is a non-problem! The international group of scientists who have descended to Bali this week is skeptical of the outcome of the UN conference on climate change being held in Bali. Lord Christopher Monckton a climate researcher from UK told the participants,
Climate change is a non-problem. The right answer to a non-problem is to have the courage to do nothing.
The skeptical scientists refuted all claims made by UN and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). According to the skeptics not only is carbon emission not responsible for global warming but data collected by this group suggest that global temperatures have not rise in the past five years. In fact, according to them the medieval period was 0.3-degree Celsius warmer than the 20th century.
The question now arises that who is correct the IPCC and the UN or the group of skeptic scientists. It must be remembered that the IPCC and the former US Vice-President Al Gore have jointly won this year’s noble prize for creating awareness on global warming and its possible implication to human civilization. It is important to consider who gains by propagating false theories. It is known that USA is thought to be the largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world and is least interested to curb its emission. European countries are trying to install alternative energy sources in their country. The automobile and petroleum industries might be adversely affected if strict emission norms are applied. Adapting new energy saving technology to the production process might adversely affect the profitability of industries. To establish global hegemony the US and its allies have tried to ignore the recommendations and authority of the UN in every field and environment conservation is only one of them.
The skeptics point out that official science driven by politics, money and power is unidirectional. The skeptics claim that the UN and its supporters are driven by the profits of ‘carbon trade’. To them such ill-informed motives of the UN will increase poverty in the impoverished nations by diverting their interest from poverty alleviation to reducing climate change.
If melting glaciers, rapid increase in fierce cyclones and rising temperatures cannot be attributed to human activity then many commercial interests will gain from the propaganda made by the skeptics.
