Australia finally completed her ratification of the Kyoto Protocol on Wednesday leaving United States the only country to banish the UN treaty on global warming.
While undergoing his first overseas visit abroad after acquiring office Mr. Kevin Rudd, Australia’s new Prime Minister rendered necessary documents ratifying the Kyoto Protocol to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
Rudd stressed that all nations irrespective of their economic progress should contribute in the fight against fighting global warming while speaking at the occasion.
This stance though has come under scanner as some prominent environmentalists suggested that the nation was actually busy in working behind the scenes to derail some future climate deals.
Newly elected Australian Prime Minister reportedly stated that the ratification had been a decision of their government. He went to add that the decision had been taken on the first day of government in office and hence, he clarified that the decision was a great honor to present to the world.
