Did you know? 33 percent of the families in US are headed by a single parent? The reasons for single parenthood are many like some personal situations, divorce, abandonment, death, and many more, which leaves one person to take care of the child. The separation process can be very overwhelming or it can be quite tough filled with horrible nightmares. When it comes to single parenthood, many couples are quite ready to make the adjustment while many single parents have the feeling of desperation, frustration and are quite stressed out.

Single Parenthood is like a coin with two faces showing that with all the real challenges in the field you will also get indulged with the rewards. There are a few tips that will enlighten you with all the possible consequences of rewards and challenges.

All the single parents have to face some real tough challenges in the initial stages such as:

  • The main task is to cope with the loss of a loved one’s may be a lover, fellow partner or a friend.
  • With single parenthood come some additional responsibilities and additional goals to fulfill.
  • You have to make yourself available for the adjustments of a new role and all new circumstances.
  • After the loss you have to establish the continuity that has been disrupted.
  • You have to help your children cope with the situation and loss.
  • Have to deal with all the societal stigma of single parenthood.
  • You have to take proper and adequate care of the children, as they’re your sole responsibility.
  • With social stigma you have to maintain a self-confident attitude in front of others, since they will be judging you all the time.
  • Everyone will not be supportive and that will make you feel doubtful about the role you play and would gradually lower your self-esteem.
  • You have to be an expert in both the home and office work.
  • You will also face time and financial constraints.

 

After looking at the challenges let’s figure out some strategies to deal with the obstacles:

  • Get involved with the children and start speaking WITH them not AT them.
  • You have to be a total package with a loving attitude and a combination of tough rules at the same time that would help the children to lead a safe and secure lifestyle.
  • Have a crystal clear communication along with several firm decisions that are to be made after having concerned the family.
  • Go multi-tasking with managing different roles and responsibilities all at once.
  • Try to work smarter rather than working harder.
  • Be an ideal parent for the children who always listens to them and takes care of them.
  • Always keep in mind that you are not alone as your family members and friends are always there to help you out.
