How to Recycle Old Greeting Cards in a Creative Manner

Recycle Old Greeting Cards in a Creative Manner

Christmas is never complete without all those holiday cards we receive from loved ones. Most of us tend to treasure these cards for ages, not having the heart to throw them away. However, with time, the mountain of cards would grow out of bounds and have to be disposed of with a heavy heart. Not anymore, though! Here is a list of some incredible ways in which you can repurpose old greeting cards, thereby preventing the need to throw them away.

Make Gift Tags

Old greeting cards make excellent gift tags. Simply cut out pieces of a card into any shape you desire, punch a hole on the corner, tie a ribbon or strong in the hole, write the “to” and “from” names on it and attach it to your gift. You can also opt to attach photos of the person on the tags to personalize the gifts even more. However, make sure the size of the photo and the tag are the same. Paste the photo on the tag and leave out the receiver’s name (you have their photo anyways). Simply fill in the ‘from’ portion at the back of the tag.

Make Christmas Trees

Did you know that you could make cool Christmas trees using old greeting cards? They would make delightful additions to your festive décor. Simply cut out some greeting cards in the shape of circles, only with increasing sizes. Roll each of the cards into a cone and glue the top and edges. Now place the largest cone at the bottom, the next smallest above it and so on until you get a cute tree. Glue the cones together at the tips (when placing them above one another) with some foam. And cover the base of the largest cone with a thick sheet of paper cut in the shape of a circle. Your Christmas greeting card tree is ready.

Make Placemats

You can make cool placemats for this year’s Christmas party using last year’s greeting cards. Cut out the greeting cards into small squares or rectangles. Fold them in half so when released, they can stand freely on the table. Paste a photo of a guest and write down his/her name on one side of the card. Laminate both sides and place the cute placemats on the table for dinner.

Make Banners

Old Christmas greetings can be repurposed dutifully to form decorative banners you can hang in your home. Cut out different cards in the shape of triangles. Punch holes on both sides of these triangles. Use a ribbon to string the pieces together, making sure you create an interesting pattern that reminds you of the good times you shared last year and hope to do so this year too.

Make Christmas Blocks

What better way to announce the arrival of the festive season than spelling out welcome greetings o card blocks? Paint some wooden blocks with white, black, or red paint. Cut out small square- shaped pieces of different cards in the same size as that of the blocks. Paste these pieces on the blocks with glue, making sure each side displays a different card. Cut out alphabets from decorative paper and stick them on the pieces to spell out words like merry, joy, Santa or Xmas.

Make Framed Silhouettes

You can transform cute Christmas cards into framed silhouettes that you can hang around the house. Draw interesting patterns like reindeers, bells, or Christmas trees on the cards and cut them out. Attach two or more cards to get an interesting background. Paste the cut out images on the cards and insert them into a frame. Glue a ribbon to the frame and hang it in the room after the glue dries.

Make Customized Greeting Cards

With a little bit of innovation, you can repurpose old greeting cards to make your own Christmas greetings this year. Cut out different cards and glue them together to create an interesting background. Use photos and cut out alphabets to decorate the insides of the cards. Laminate the outside and insides to get a glossy look. Your friends will love the personal effort you took to make these cute cards.
