Pregnancy week one: 10 things to note

Once you and your partner decide to have a baby, you wait anxiously for signs of pregnancy. But the first week of pregnancy is quiet tricky as you remain unsure about your pregnancy. Be patient and don’t get confused. Read through the points below and know about early pregnancy of the very first week.

We have compiled together the 10 changes you would observe during your first week of pregnancy.

1. Menstrual period

If you are entering in the first week of pregnancy, you will have your last menstrual period till your delivery. You can add seven days to your first day of your last period and then add three months to the result. Now add one whole year to it. The final result will be your approximate delivery date. All the doctors and nurses use this calculation as a countdown key towards delivery date.

2. Laying sperm and egg outside

By the first week of pregnancy, sperm and egg lay outside the womb. They do not enter into it. They do so in the second week of pregnancy when they pass down from the Fallopian tube to the uterus.

3. Confirming the pregnancy

You can not be sure about your pregnancy in the first week itself. When egg and sperm enter into the womb then only you can confirm your pregnancy. This happens in the second week only. You can check through pregnancy kits available in the market. Put a few drops of the urine (preferably first urine of the day) into the stick. If it shows positive, it confirms your pregnancy. At the start of the pregnancy, woman’s urine carries HcG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) hormone which becomes miscible in the urine depicting the signs of pregnancy.

4. Body changes

You can have certain body changes that you may notice. Don’t expect your belly bulging out right now. You may feel the body temperature up a little. So, it’s better to refrain yourself from electric blankets, heaters and all heat producing apparatus.

5. Baby appearance

During the first week, there will be no indication of appearance or existence of baby. The fetus will start making its existence by the second week.

6. Nutrition

From the first appointment, your doctor will prescribe you some vitamins like folic acid and iron tablets. These vitamins help develop brain and body organs of the baby. These tablets are to be consumed regularly. Doctor will also recommend you to get more leafy vegetables and protein. It would be best to avoid smoking, too much of coffee or tea, work overload etc. to ease up your further stages.

7. Things to get delivery smoother

While you are a way before your delivery due date, you must start planning things that can turn your delivery smoother. Consult some good gynecologists. They will help you to find out the ways to make your way smoother. Certain kind of exercises, diet and habits can make ease out your delivery.

8. Pursue your hobbies

Pregnancy is the time when you need to distract yourself from anxiety and stress. You can do this by indulging in your hobbies. You can also practice a new hobby. You can read books on pregnancy and baby care. This would be also beneficial for you in the long run. However, do not forget to take rest.

9. Communicate

It’s always better to communicate your problems and feelings. Your partner will be the best to to do so. You can also discuss the problems with someone in the family who has gone through pregnancy. They would be able to guide you properly.

10. Changes in inner side

You might feel nervous or anxiety while stepping towards your pregnancy. This is perfectly normal as you are supposed to start a new phase of life. So, embrace the feelings of being a would-be mother. This will help you to get prepared for the further stages of pregnancy.
