4 Facts to consider: Getting pregnant at 35

Women planning to have a baby post the age of 35 tend to invite certain complications unknowingly. Serious health risk and several tests are two major problems that might arise with you getting pregnant post 35. Career driven women tend to postpone reproduction for their careers, while considering careers so seriously they tend to forget about the pregnancy risks that might crop up. They might not just face issues conceiving but might also have a troublesome 9 months with high risk of miscarriages. Ideally, a woman should reproduce between 20-30 years of age. With increasing age, the risk of high blood pressure and gestational gas problems tend to increase and pose great challenges during pregnancy. 1. General health

It is very important for women who plan to get pregnant in future to consider their health as their top most priority. Even a minor disease at this age needs more consideration. Women above 35, in order to have a safe pregnancy, need to take extra care of themselves. Proper diet and timely exercise are quintessential. Healthy food must be included as a part of diet everyday. Weight must be regulated to avoid any complications, the fact that obesity is the cause of many diseases is known to all. Older women also need to take their prenatal appointments seriously and attend them regularly. During pregnancy, it is important to add about 300 more calories to the normal diet. Pregnant women must eat healthy food and avoid processed food items. Lots of fruits and juice consumption is recommended. Healthy eating and proper exercising can make the nine months of pregnancy somewhat problem free.

2. Medical tests

Proper medical tests are recommended to women above 35 years of age. The first test that doctors recommend women above 35 is genetic testing. The need of genetic testing arises because of the high risk of certain chromosomal abnormalities in older women. You will have to opt for any one of the two tests available based on the prescription of the doctor, these test are Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) which can be done between 9-11 weeks of pregnancy or Amniocentesis test at the 15-16 week of pregnancy. CVS test poses high risk of miscarriage and is thus often not advised by the doctor. A positive test results reflects the need of further tests.

3. Complications

Women above the age of 35 are more prone to the risk of high blood pressure and diabetes. There is also a possibility of a disease called Preeclampsia which is commonly known as pregnancy-induced hypertension, the risk is much higher in older women. With increase in the age of women, the risk of miscarriage and stillbirth also raises; this can be attributed to the chromosomal abnormalities or uterine fibroids. These problems tend to interfere with the development of fetal. Women above 35 are more vulnerable to twin births. Early or premature delivery of the baby is also possible in some cases. Women of higher age are also more prone to cesarean sections instead of normal deliveries.

4. Emotional issues

Women during pregnancy tend to have high stress levels; it becomes slightly difficult for them to manage with the emotions. The worse part is that high stress levels can create complications in the pregnancy. Pregnant women are thus advised to practice meditation and stay happy. Healthy eating habits are also essential for such women. In cases of extreme stress, it is recommended that the woman must consult a psychiatrist. Seeking support of relatives and friends is also suggested because pregnant women have a lot of inhibition in their hearts. It is thus essential that they speak with people who can help them deal with issues.
