Therefore, bookshelves are an ideal addition to any home. But unlike other furniture at homes bookshelves tend to be overlooked and over a period of time books clutter and fall, making the bookshelf nothing but a mess.

If you have been thinking of organizing your bookshelf for long, then stop thinking and start un-cluttering and organizing. Here are some of the tips that can help organize your bookshelf for easier selection of books.

Remove the books

The best way to organize your clutter is to take out everything. So, start by emptying your bookshelf. Pull everything out.

Check out all the books

More or less, we all have books on our bookshelves that we intended to read, but haven’t read. In fact, we even have books that our children have outgrown or the books we don’t really want for our collection. So, check out all the books and divide them. The books that aren’t required shall be kept aside.

Give away

Give away the books that you don’t really want to keep. Don’t just keep it for the sake of keeping it. Give them away to charity or sell them second hand on online stores. This way you will have more space to organize your bookshelf in clutter free manner.

Categorize books

A lot of us have books that are simply stacked on the bookshelf and whenever we want to read something, we have to embark on an endless search to find that book. Well, if you don’t want that to happen to you, and then start by categorizing the books. For instance, books by same author are together, then generalized under fiction or nonfiction category, self help books are categorized together or books have been categorized upon the basis of their classic appeal. This will help you keep them in order.

Place them

Now, start putting the books in order. Ideally, books that you have read should be kept on top shelves or at the back and unread ones could be kept together. It is intelligent to place binding side outwards as it provides the name of the book on spine. Once you are done, just sit and admire your organizational skills!
