Siemens announced that it has collaborated with renowned New York-based custom motorcycle manufacturer Orange County Choppers to build the first custom electric motorcycle. The zero-emission motorcycle built using recycled material was unveiled at an event at the Time Warner Center. The objective behind the creation of this unique chopper was to raise environmental awareness and boost America’s green economy.
The custom electric chopper is powered by a 27-horsepower electric motor and delivers an impressive 60 miles for a five-hour charge. It accelerates to a top speed of 100 miles per hour, making it one of the fastest bikes among the ones produced by OCC so far. The company does not intend to mass-produce the electric bike but might do so if there are sufficient demands. In 2010, the motorcycle will be auctioned off with the profits going to a charitable cause that will help benefit the environment.
