Baby slings have been very popular with parents of preemies as a novel way to keep their babies close to them through the day. An important of kangaroo care, the famed technique that skin-to-skin contact helps premature babies settle into the world sans an incubator, slings help parents acclimatize their babies to a life outside the womb when an incubator isn’t available. Since slings are traditionally worn over clothing, babies don’t get the skin contact that they need to remain soothed. This is where products like the NüRoo Pocket can be of immense help.


The pocket is basically a sling that can be worn as a shirt. The pocket is designed taking into account the special set of ergonomics required to keep the baby comfortable within the confined space while keeping the mom or dad fully clad and covered. The NüRoo Pocket is the brainchild of moms Daniela and Hope who wanted to provide a way for mom to optimize their mobility after the baby is born without leaving their babies in cribs and cots. Since slings have a notorious habit of slipping and loosening with use, babies find them uncomfortable. That’s why a top that also converts into a maternity top and allows mom to carry their preemies while their hands remain free to take create of chores.

The machine washable top is constructed of 10 percent Spandex and 90 percent Polyester and is fully dryer safe. The top accommodates babies up to 15 lbs of weight and is offered in black and teal colorways. The moisture-wicking, breathable and super-soft fabric keeps both mom and baby comfy through the day. As the baby grows and mom’s body changes, the top’s “Cross & Hug” closures afford a custom-fit. The garb is designed to serve as a nursing top, skin-to-skin carrier and a maternity shirt and provides back and belly support through a belt when mom is on her feet and even pre- and post-delivery
