At Shanghai Expo 2010, the design team of Helen & Hard, Melvaer & Lien and Sweco Groener will allow visitors to appreciate the coast, forest, fjords, mountains and arctic landscapes of Norway at the Norwegian Pavilion. Where societal development is said to be the mainstay of the entire construction, it’s a kind of tribute to the Norway-China friendship as architects plan to place 15 bamboo trees, core components of the pavilion structure, in 15 Chinese cities once the Expo is over.
Dubbed as Norway Nature, the pavilion will have a four-point sail-membrane construction of Teflon coated etfe fitted to its roof. Glue-laminated timber and Chinese bamboo boards is responsible for the main construction. The trees serve multiple purposes viz. construction, infrastructure, furniture, exhibition, playground and information display. The second layer will tout air conditioning, water and energy supply, lighting, display- screens and some technical installations.
So, when you visit the expo this year, don’t forget to visit this pavilion for a surge of visual, tactile, auditory, and a sensory experience.
