Makoto Azuma, a flower artist from Japan with Unitika Ltd, created an organic carpet made of Biodegradable Moss planters, at the Tokyo Fiber Sensware exhibition. It really stole the show at the exhibition in the Milan furniture fair. This technology makes use of a container, known as Terramac, meaning “sons of the mother earth”, to grow the moss carpet. The most remarkable feature of this technology is the way in which it blends a plant-derived plastic with a plant (the moss)to create an enhanced sustainable environment. It is amazing to see how moss, which is generally, found growing on walls and the ground, can be put to better use. So, why buy artificial carpets made of not so eco-friendly material, when we can grow them right inside our homes?

It is a common belief that walking on green grass is beneficial for your eyes and helps in increasing blood circulation. Gone are the days when we used to have time to go out for morning and evening walks. In today’s time where time is money, we look for alternatives, which in short duration gives larger benefits. The Moss carpet is a very good alternative, providing you with the opportunity of getting grass to your feet, and that too in your house.
It is also seen that plants acts as a heeling drug for patients. Growing them in patient’s room can actually reduce their intakes of medicines, pain, fatigue, low blood pressure and heart rate when compared to ones without plants in their rooms. It is said that potted plants offer more benefits as compared to cut flowers plants, because of their prolonged existence.

This is an ideal solution for urban dwellings, where scarcity of land is a major problem and maintaining a garden is completely out of question.
