Coral Gardens in Dubai, when developed, will be an eco-resort signifying how specific architectural mechanisms coexist and evolve with the local marine habitat. The design workshop of the Architectural Association has been instrumental to bring about a startling blend of marine biology, architecture and infrastructural engineering. Last Thursday, the exhibit dubbed “Marine Life Incubators”, hosted by Dr Abeer al Janahi of the British University in Dubai, unveiled the first blueprints of the ecological project.
Hailed as the World Lagoon and the Octopus’s Garden, the eco-project is also supposed to “provide a scientific laboratory on an unprecedented scale to study the affect of currents, temperature change and pollution on coral reefs”. The master developer, Nakheel hopes that the construction on 20 of the islands will begin in the second quarter of next year.
