London Assembly wishes to convert trash into electricity for 2 million London homes

London desires to make treasure from trash. The London Assembly is looking forward to convert everything that cannot be recycled into electricity. This transformation could be easily done by breaking matter down using bacteria and “thermal treatment” using a super-high temperature oxygenated heating processes, called gasification. The assembly seeks to turn rubbish into electricity for 2 million London homes.

According to a report, London produces 22 million tons of waste annually, out of which only one fifth is recycled, a small portion goes to incineration plants and the remain ends up polluting the environment. Therefore, the members of the Assembly’s environment committee wishes more waste companies and councils to come forward to invest in conversion systems. If reports are to be believed this recycling could generate enough power to heat up to 625,000 homes and supply electricity to two million of London’s 3.3 million households. This effort could lead to reduction in greenhouse gases, diminution in waste sent to landfill and boost the renewable energy generation.
