Kentucky Coal fire plant gets fined for Acid rain

Recently, a coal power plant in Kentucky was imposed the highest fine ever due to the acid rain. East Kentucky Power corporative: a coal fired electric utility decided to pay $11.4 million penalty for all it’s environment violations. The plant has violated the Clean Air act as well.

This is the latest announcement from the U.S. E.P.A. and the Department of Justice. As a part of the settlement, the coal power company is expected to release take the necessary steps in order to prevent the 400 tons of harmful emissions it releases annually. Besides this, the plant reportedly releases about 200,000 tons of harmful gas from it’s Clark county facility, Ky. and all that without a permit!

The authorities in charge of the situation believe that the utility’s Dale Generating Station emitted little more than 15000 tons of sulfur and 4000 tons of nitrogen dioxide to the atmosphere between 2000-2005. Additionally, the utility passed the govt.’s annual rate of emission.

As per the current agreement, the company agreed to pay the $11.4 million over a span of about 6 years. This million dollar deal was sealed last July with the power company.
