Florida wildfire choking birds to death

Florida wildfire

The fire stricken Florida has new worry to face. The smog from the forest fires is choking birds to death. The worst affected arrears are Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

Due to so much of pollution from massive wildfires raging all over Florida in the atmosphere these helpless birds are not unable to breathe and are dropping down from the sky. And when the fall down they often hit windows, buildings and other hard objects which further nullify their chances of survival. So far as many as hundreds of yellow warblers have died in this manner.

Stefan Harsch the Wildlife Care Center who is continuously treating fallen birds in Ft. Lauderdale said:

The smoke disorients the birds and impairs their vision. The birds are coming in with concussions. We treat them with painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs like an ibuprofen. They’re vulnerable if they stay outside. Sometimes being in a safe place is enough.

The situation is believed to be out of control as hundreds of such cases are being reported everyday.

However several of these injured birds may recover if they receive the treatment on time. The Wildlife Care Center has also requested Florida residents to help by bringing the wounded warbles to vet or to put them in the shelter which has ample breathing space.
