Fairy tales are much more than “………And they lived happily ever after”

Adventurous fantasies including beautiful dresses, lovely shoes, exciting lives and a handsome prince, is dreamed off by almost every girl child. However, are these fairy tales appropriate for kids, should you really let them believe in fairy tale world and deprive them of the realities of life? You wouldn’t want your daughter to experience the bitterness of the real world at this young age, let her grow old to have her own experiences, till then it is time to enjoy the fairy tales.

Let your daughter venture into fantasies

1. Stronger imagination

When you read out a fairy tale to your daughter, she creates an image of the characters and situation they deal with, in her mind. Fairy tales foster the imaginative power, which is very good for the development of their brains.

2. Personal and cultural trepidation

Even kids deal with emotions such as nervousness and fear. Your child is too small to communicate her feelings across. This is why most of the parents are unaware of their child’s trepidations. Reading fairy tales across to your child will divert her mind from these fears, thus making her feel better.

3. Motivation with a positive attitude

All the fairy tales have their main character that is the princess and the prince winning at the end and living happily ever after. This is where your child gets motivated; you can make your child believe that hard work pays off at the end. It can be the same for her if she works hard in life.

Indulging in fairy tales fantasies, doing more harm than good?

1. Weakness of the women gender

Most of the fairy tales have a handsome prince coming to rescue the princess. This is where your girl child can feel she is weak and will need a man to keep her safe and secured all her life. Today’s world is very competitive and your daughter should not have the feeling of relying on anyone for her security.

2. Misleading thoughts and bitter truth

Fairy tales always portray a beautiful princess and a handsome prince, who live happily ever after. Your child can assume that only people who look good can live. This thought is absolutely incorrect for the development of tender minds. Kids are too small to understand sudden death of a parent and remarriage, displayed in some fairy tales.

3. Irreverent characters

Most of the princesses have friends such as mice, birds, fishes and handsome prince who help her deal with situations and rescue her from the evil. Well, real life does not have such characters coming to help. You will have to make your daughter understand that she is only reading a fairy tale.

The bottom line

Fairy tales are a fun, exciting and a dreamy world where your little daughter can venture for sometime. But she should not be allowed to consider it the truth. You should know how to strike a balance between the real and virtual world. In that case you need to explain the moral of the story to your daughter thus making her understand the facts and the dreams.
