Not many children love to read books, they are reluctant readers but majority of the parents like their children to grow up as a person who loves books and has a penchant for reading. If you as a parent want your child to develop an ideal reading capacity and do not know how, just keep on reading and you will get to know how.
Start as early as possible
Kids are like clay, as parents can mould them the way they want. To instill a good habit of reading in your kid you will have to start early.You can start this as early as your child begins to sit on his own, he would not be able to read or understand a word written in the book but seeing you everyday sitting with a book ad telling him things from it would leave a life-long impression in his mind.It is like acclimatizing your child with the routine of reading every day.
Choose appropriate books
The books you select for your kid have to be appropriate, so they could develop a penchant for them. For toddlers there are pop-up books and other board books, buy colorful books, and the ones that have rhyming poems for your kids who have passed the toddler age, and like. Inappropriate books could take away the charm and repel kids rather than attracting.
Set up a regular reading time
Regularity is the key, the more the regularity the better would be your child’s dedication and penchant for books and reading.You have to think of numerous ways you could make the reading ritual exciting and interesting for your kid everyday.For instance, not just depend upon the bedtime storytelling but also use the bath time storytelling, on dining table storytelling, and others.
Show them alphabets everywhere
Children learn reading and alphabets not only from books but also from numerous things around. For instance, while travelling you can show them the traffic signs and make them read them out. While out in a grocery store, show them labels, in a zoo let them read out names on the boards, and so many other things and ways you can use to enhance reading capacity in your child.
Use your own penchant for reading to set an example
Children imitate their parents because for them parents are their biggest role models. If you want your children develop the same reading capacity as you have then you must display your own love for books and reading in front of them every day. You should sit and read for hours in front f them, you should have a good collection of books at home, and you must take regular trips to library with your children, because children learn things best if they see them happening.
Get them books with their favorite characters in it
Only those things attract children that have something to do with their favoritism, so let their favoritism prevail in their reading habit as well. Offer those comics and other story books that have their famous cartoon or fictional characters.
Don’t push your child to learn to read
Anything that comes as forced on children, or for that matter on anybody, they hate it. Your goal is to instill a love for books in your children, and the rest will follow. If you would start pressing reading every day on them, they would never develop your much-desired love and penchant for reading. You just have to help them develop preliminary skills.
