A recent announcement from Azure Dynamics Corporation confirmed that its dealer, Colonial Equipment Co., has been awarded a bid with Howard County, Maryland for 25 of the Azure hybrid electric CitiBuses. Out of the 25, eight buses are asked to be build immediately, while the remaining 17 could be ordered anytime within a span of one year. The eco-friendly buses from the leading developer of state-of-the-art green technologies that address environmental and cost issues for the commercial transportation industry reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions.
Azure Dynamics has collaborated with Colonial Equipment, an authorized General Services Administration supplier, to deliver transportation solutions eligible for Stimulus Package funding. The company’s green transport solution uses the HD Senator Bus body manufactured by Supreme Corporation’s StarTrans Bus Division for paratransit and shuttle bus customers. The electric hybrid also incorporates a wheelchair lift in the rear right corner with flexible seating arrangements that can be set according to the requirement of the passengers.
The Azure CitiBus is an eco-friendly solution that is capable of achieving up to 40% improvement in fuel economy, a 30% reduction in maintenance costs and a 30% reduction in greenhouse emissions. It has not only completed the Altoona 200,000 mile, seven-year durability test, but has also met with the requirements for most federal and state stimulus programs.
