Effective ways to discipline kids between 2-12 age group

ways to discipline kids

As a parent, out of many responsibilities one is to discipline a child, which many parents consider the toughest of all, especially for the age group 2 to 12. Parents often complain that they have a hard time disciplining their kids as they find themselves unable to get the hang of one particular approach that can yield what they want, or they feel that their child does not listen to them.

At times, parents get frustrated and angry over children. This approach is not good for both the parent and the child, as anger sows the seeds of stubbornness, not discipline. Parents are always on a lookout for some effective ways that can help them solve their purpose. If you are someone who is searching for efficient ways to discipline kids then read further, as following are such ways that will certainly enable you to discipline your kids without any hassles:

Natural Consequences

Using the natural consequence tactic is believed to be the best approach that has helped many parents discipline their stubborn kids. The approach entails letting your child see what will happen if he does not behave properly, or turns a deaf ear to you. For instance, if your child intentionally keeps breaking his toys, then make him realize that a time will come that he will have no more toys to play with, and you as a parent would stop buying any toys for him.

If your child continues to show tantrums and stops eating nutritious meals, stop offering any the preferred food and make him realize that if he continues to refuse nutritious food, he won’t get any desserts or candy either. Make sure that once you start using this approach, do not give up, otherwise your child would never learn to control his bad behavior. However, in some cases, children are exceptionally stubborn, in such a case, parents sometimes do have to give up but you can always try it repeatedly.

Take away privileges

This is an effective approach, which has disciplined many stubborn kids. Whenever your child misbehaves or does not listens to you, tell them that every time they do this they will have to give up one thing that is too dear to them. That dear thing could be a toy, clothing, or you could also deprive them of their cartoon watching time, but make sure that you never deprive them of their meals. Parents can ask their children to give up a thing that leads them to misbehave, such as chocolate, toys, and the playtime. This technique works pretty well on children below 7 years, and parents should ensure that they ask the child to give up a thing as soon as they misbehave, and continue doing this until you think it is required.

Logical Consequences

Logical consequence method is one that children tend to understand easily. It is a method wherein you can punish your child at the very time he misbehaves. Suppose you tell your child to keep his toys back in place after he is done playing with them but he ignores what you say. Here, what you can do is just tell him that if you see any of his toys laying out of the box in the room you will keep all the toys away, and you will not let him play for the entire day. Make sure that you do not scream on your child, just make him understand the consequence, and certainly your child would yield to your request.

Summary

In order to discipline stubborn kids, parents need to learn some tactics, which are based on no yelling but understanding and logic.
