Ectopic pregnancy symptoms to be aware of

Ectopic pregnancy symptoms

An ectopic pregnancy can occur to any woman, even if there are no physical traces or known risk factors. However, majority of women who go through an ectopic pregnancy do not tend to experience any warning sign. It may surprise many but a woman’s pregnancy may not be discovered or known as ectopic until an early scan reveals something significant. In fact, many tend to neglect but if a woman’s fallopian tube is ruptured, it may indicate an ectopic pregnancy.

Although there are quite a number of warning signs, listed below are the most prominent symptoms for an ectopic pregnancy. Since they usually take place between weeks five and fourteen of the conception, make sure you are aware of all.

One-Sided Abdominal Pain

Women may experience some soreness in one side of their abdomen which can indeed be severe and persistent. Though the one-sided abdominal pain is usually sharp, it may also be mild and intermittent at an early stage.

Vaginal Bleeding

Women who have an ectopic pregnancy generally tend to get mistaken with their vaginal bleeding. However, vaginal bleeding here differs from the monthly menstruation. It rather starts and discontinues but can either be bright or dark red in color. A majority of women make mistakes by assuming such type of vaginal bleeding as their monthly period and do not come to know that they are expecting.

Shoulder Tip Pain

Another prominent symptom of an ectopic pregnancy is shoulder tip pain which is sensed where the shoulder ends and the arm begins. Although, the real cause for such soreness is unknown, the tip pain generally starts when the person is lying down. Not many tend to pay attention but in real ectopic pregnancy it might cause internal bleeding. However, to notify, such kind of bleeding hurts the phrenic nerve which is found in the diaphragm.

Bowel Pain

Ectopic pregnancy may also cause pain when passing urine or faeces.

Diarrhea and Vomiting

Besides all these vital symptoms, women with ectopic conception may even have to experience gastrointestinal diseases. Some may go through episodes of diarrhea and vomiting which should not be taken lightly in any case.

Collapse

Lastly but most importantly, collapse incidence has been considered as the most serious symptom of an ectopic pregnancy. However, this tends to happen when such sort of conception has ruptured the fallopian tubes and is resulting into dangerous internal bleeding. Women who experience ‘collapse’ episodes are also likely to have an increased heart rate, look dull and feel unwell. In addition to feeling light-headed, they may also complain of diarrhea. In such cases, it becomes highly essential to have an emergency surgery done in order to prevent any further blood loss.

The above mentioned symptoms, hopefully, should make you aware of the aspects that might need your immediate attention. Though healthcare providers and doctors carefully monitor the pregnancy stages, you should still be alert if any ectopic pregnancy symptom is sensed.
