Massachusetts institute of Technology (MIT) has come up with a new finding, according to which by the end of 2100, world temperature will rise up by 9 degrees. Their earlier research work of 2003 projected that the earth temperature will rise up by 4 degrees centigrade. Contradicting its earlier finding of climate rise, this time around their finding was backed by use of more sophisticated computer models. By using 400 applications of a computer model, researchers took into account the effects of economic activity, atmosphere, oceanic and biological systems. MIT scientists are of the belief that if no policy change is enacted on green house gas emissions then the estimated temperature rise is going to be a reality.
Causes backing climate change:
Green house gases: Main offenders responsible for green house effect are water vapors, carbon dioxide, methane and ozone. Human activities such as fossil fuel burning, aviation and deforestation has multifold the ill effects of green- house gases.
Sun: The very thought that Sun variations may be the cause behind Earth’s climate change has been discussed many times. But according to recent studies, Sun has undergone change in its brightness to about 0.07% over the last years. This is considered as too small to contribute to global warming.
With steady increase in Earth’s temperatures, world is witnessing great-unwanted changes in climate such as – changed patterns of precipitation, rising sea levels, altered patterns of agriculture, extreme climate, reduction of ozone layer, and widespread of diseases such as malaria and dengue fever. Though, for generations, various astrologers and scientists have made predictions regarding catastrophe and world destruction but curbing CO2 gas emission is in our own hands. However, the major concern is that despite all efforts, CO2 concentration is on the rise.
