DIY boat kit for your ocean lover kid

The Balmain Boat Company state their mission which is to make parents and grandparents become legends in the eyes of their children and grandchildren. And if you are wondering how they would go about doing it, the answer lies in a boat! BY designing and manufacturing cool DIY boat kits, the company claims that any such gift to the child will ensure that you are idolized for life. DIY kits for children always keep them engaged and fascinated. These kits are usually available for the construction of toys. Making something functional like a boat all by oneself and actually setting sail in it will be too exciting and romantic an idea for the child to let pass.

Design

The Balmain Boat Company has come up with four different designs to choose from – the Classic Boat, assembled and unassembled variants of the Kid Classic Boat and the beautiful Sailboat. The names tell a lot about the boats. Each of them have been made completely of non-toxic, water resistant and durable wood. The design has been derived from the old Sydney boating culture which also ensures that the cost is kept to the minimum. The natural colors have been left on for a detailed finish and all the rough edges have been smoothed as a safety feature. The boats come flat-packed in ready to assemble kits. A single person could build the boat and set sail in the weekend or the boat building could be a happy family activity.

Freaky concept and use

We once again turn to the guiding spirit of the company in the design of the boat. They claim that if one is able to ice a cake or hammer a nail, one will be able to build their boats! So, it must be a real piece of cake to make one of them at home. The idea and inspiration for the company comes from an American named Joshua Slocum who was the first person to set sail alone around the world in 1900. Thus, the concept and use of the boat is such that a single person should be able to everything from building to setting sail to docking safely. A single person stuck on an island does not have much money on him. Joshua stated that means and money should not be factors when a person decides to take to the waters. With that as another inspiring ideal, the boats are very inexpensive compared to purchasing a fully assembled one.

Cost

The Kid Classic Boat is available in two variants. The unassembled variant costs $650 while the assembled one costs $799. The sailboat, complete with the sails, costs under $2490.
