CES 2013: Coleridge Design’s transparent aCUBE BMR speaker system

San Jose, California based company Coleridge Design Associates has launched a crowdfunding campaign for its transparent aCUBE speaker system, which combines the beauty of clear acrylic 6-inch cubes with the rich sound of Dr Graham Bank’s BMR speaker drivers and Class-D amplifier technology from Maxim Integrated. Since acrylic boasts very high internal damping, the cube enclosures do not resonate and radiate sound equivalent to that of other materials like wood and aluminum. The aCUBE speakers feature natural anodized 2mm aluminum speaker grills inspired by the 1941 Willy’s Jeep grill with nine slats.

The custom aluminum grills will be made available in a range of colors. Coleridge Design has also created Z-shaped matching speaker stands in clear cast acrylic sheet, which avoid transmission of sound and vibration to the floor or desk or tabletop. Other salient features of the aCUBE speaker system include 3.5mm stereo jack inputs, optional digital inputs for Apple Airplay, Bluetooth, Optical S/PDIF and USB 2.0 Audio, an auto-off feature and volume level control on the back panel.

The entry level aCUBE BMR speaker carries a suggested retail price of $180 and if you wish to use it as a stereo, you can go for the matching passive aCUBE BMR speaker with the RRP of $120.
