Clear evidence of climate change in Asia

You don’t need any more evidences of Climate change. It has already engulfed the entire globe, from polar Arctic to hot equatorial, down to cold Antarctic. There is no region where global warming hasn’t made its way in.

With daily changing weather, you don’t need to ask the reason behind it. As global warming starts to spread its tentacles, changes in climate have begun to show their face. A failed monsoon or a premature monsoon, rainy season substituted by hot weather , fast retreating glaciers, flash floods, failed crops, droughts, sea resurgences , you name it and the list is unending.

Tropical countries like those in Asia are used to a hot climate with monsoon rains. It is just the beginning of summer season in Asia and the heat has already started to take its toll on the people. Global warming is feared to cause more monsoon failures in the subcontinent, in return bringing droughts and crop failures. But, at present rains are pouring in southeast Asia with 76 people reported dead ever since the rains started leading to flash flooding in China’s southern and eastern provinces. Over 788,000 people have abandoned their homes due to inundation. The deluge has already caused a damage of more than 2.9 billion Yuan and destroyed nearly 300,000 hectares of crop area. Thanks to global climate change for the entire torrent, and even the National Meteorological Center of China acknowledges this.

Flash flooding in China is not new, but it gets exacerbated with global warming. The duration lengthens, so does the intensity of rains making things from bad to worse. The current rainy season is the second deadliest in the country. With glaciers from the Himalayas and Tibet retreating at an enormous pace leading to higher water levels and more flooding. But once the rains recede, it would give way to droughts, a healthy sign of global warming.

Contrary to this, India and Pakistan are reeling under an intense heat wave, with temperatures already hovering around 50 degrees. The heat wave has claimed around 340 lives in both the countries. Meanwhile, Bangladesh is also suffering at the hands of heavy monsoon rains that have killed 126 people.

This is a clear evidence of the fact that the developing poor nations are feeling the brunt of climate change caused primarily by developed nations, even though the U.S. is also suffering from the severest drought since the Great Dust Bowl devastation for the same reason. But, a country like America has the resources and potential to face the current situation, but changes to the climate would hit the poor nations, the hardest.

In other parts of the world too the situation is similar, Australia is recovering from serious flooding and drought simultaneously in its different parts. Losses in flash flooding have already reached A$200 million ($165 million).

It is not just one part of the globe that is suffering from global heat exchanges or warming, but the entire globe. Though, the worst sufferers would always be the poor nations due to lack of resources in tackling any serious disaster. Greenhouse gas emissions would increase day by day, leading to a surge in global temperatures. And with developed countries still reluctant to adopt the prescribed carbon cuts in GHG emissions, a well-reaped disaster is waiting at the door.
